Skansen Lejonet ("the Lion Sconce"), formally Westgötha Leijon ("the Westrogothic Lion"), is a redoubt on the hill Gullberg in Gothenburg, Sweden, built in –92 on the site of an earlier medieval castle. It was decommissioned in and has since served a range of other purposes.
The fortress and its twin, Skansen Kronan, were built to protect the city of Gothenburg against possible Danish attack, and thus had a similar purpose to the sea fort of New Älvsborg, which was built around the same time.

Suomen leijona lighthouse
[edit]The original Suomen leijona (Swedish: Finlands lejon), The Lion of Finland, was a caisson lighthouse; a steel tower resting on a concrete caisson, equipped with a helicopter platform and powered by a wind generator. The lighthouse had a futuristic design with a helipad on the top of a downward tapering tower, which made great demands on the foundation and the bottom of the tower. In it was discovered that the foundation had been under-mined and that the lighthouse was threatening to collapse. The problem was remedied by filling with rubble, but the problem recurred in Deemed too dangerous to repair the lighthouse, it was demolished in and replaced by the much smaller, marker light / radio beacon.[2]
